Production Supervisor (Afternoons) - Job Description
Job Summary: This role provides leadership and supervision to ensure the safe and effective operation of the assigned departments in accordance with the goals of the department and to create a product that meets the specification set out by engineering and customers. Required Qualifications: - 2-3 Years Supervisory experience in an industrial fabrication and assembly environment
- Familiar with both Canadian and American welding codes (applies to welding departments only)
Critical Success Factors: - Ability to read and interpret dimensional and weld prints
- Ability to train, motivate, coach and counsel others
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact with employees, and all levels of management
- Must possess problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making skills
- Excellent written/oral communication and excellent listening skills
- Works well independently and in a team environment
- Strong organizational skills, able to prioritize
- Ability to multi-task, excellent time management skills and detailed orientated
- Must be creative and possess the ability to think outside the box
- Ensure confidentiality of all employee information
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance and Statistical Process Control fundamentals
- Desire to learn the business, understand the production process by walking the floor and participating in production meetings
- A complete hands-on approach is required to assist the plant in developing into a successful and profitable division of Martinrea, a multi-billion dollar company
- Ability to work independently without supervision and with minimum direction
- Ability to work in a team environment and be both a team player and team leader
- Ability to manage and direct subordinates on the day-to-day tasks in a fast paced environment
- Ability to mentor and guide subordinates to achieve overall departmental goals and objectives
- Respect and understanding of the Customer/Supplier relationship
- Adopt a common sense approach to identifying and addressing problems and control weaknesses
- Familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations
Responsibilities: - Must work in accordance with Health & Safety regulations, Martinrea Industrial Canada rules, policies and procedures
- Must use or wear equipment, protective devices or clothing as required by Martinrea Industrial Canada
- Ensure employees are performing their duties to the standards and guidelines
- Ensure all employees are working in accordance with Health Safety regulations, Company rules, policies and procedures
- Ensure employees work in a manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedure required by the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the regulations.
- Ensure employees use or wear equipment, protective devices or clothing as required by the company
- Ensure employees are trained and follow prints, work/inspection procedures and/or work instructions
- Ensure employees are trained in the correct and safe use of equipment
- Ensure employees are upholding quality standards, perform inspection prior to completion of paperwork and/or labour entry
- Ensure all machines are operating at maximum efficiency and utilization
- Organize the employees to ensure maximum efficiency from the work center
- Report any damage to machines or tooling to supervisors and/or maintenance immediately
- Ensure that all schedules and deadline are met by the employees
- Ensure finished product is delivered to the next operation and/or drop-off zone
- Continuously look for ways to improve production, quality and safe working conditions in the plant
- Ensure employees maintain proper housekeeping standard.
- Ensure communication flow from company to employees and vice versa
- Assess employees' ability to perform certain jobs, which can lead to further training or reassignment of job
- Provide employees with coaching and counseling as required and instigate progressive discipline when necessary
- Support Management decisions and employ diplomacy when directing employees
- Provide on time employee evaluations.
- Participate in monthly employee meetings, safety talks
- Conduct incident investigations
- Perform employee safety observations and correct substandard acts or conditions
- Must understand the six elements of the Quality System, Record Retention, Document Control, Non-conforming Material, Corrective Action, Preventative Action and internal audits as well as department procedures.
- Demonstrate 5S Methodology throughout the plant
Working Conditions - Both office setting and production environment
Effort/Physical Demands - Ability to work on computer for long periods of time
- Ability to be present on the production floor on a daily basis
Health and Safety Responsibilities - Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company Rules, Plant Rules, policies and procedures
- Must use or wear personal protective equipment and certain clothing as required by the Company
