Job Summary: Promote a high-performance safety culture, be able to operate and setup a variety of presses from 400 ton to 2000 ton while ensuring quality and productivity standards are being met daily and lead a team of Press Operators Required Education and Experience: - 1 – 2 years of experience in similar role and in a similar manufacturing environment
- Post-Secondary Education:
- Electro-Mechanical Technician Diploma preferred
- Possession of 309A or 442A is an asset
- Millwright Certification of Qualification (C of Q) is an asset
- Mechanical Aptitude: knowledge of Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Servo Drives, Machine Prints and interpretation preferred
- Familiar with PLC control systems such as Rockwell, Siemens, Bosch etc preferred
- E-Coat knowledge is an asset
- Ability to work independently and use problem solving tools where necessary
- Ability to follow standardized work instructions and problem solve technical issues
- Knowledge of production and quality systems
- Knowledge of customer specific requirements and IATF16949 management system preferred
- Knowledge of ISO14001 & ISO45001 preferred
Essential Functions: Environmental & Health and Safety - Perform all work in a safe manner as per standard work and ensure assigned team follows all Environmental & Safety regulations and policies.
- Report potential safety hazards and all safety incidents immediately to supervisor or H&S coordinator on the floor.
- Must follow LOTO procedure and instructions.
- Communicate Safety issues at Line side boards daily. Record status on the line sideboard daily.
- Responsible for providing required PPE for immediate associates.
- Ensure proper waste separation (garbage, recycling, used gloves & rags) is understood and carried out by all employees within the area of responsibilities.
- Participate during internal and external Environmental and Health & Safety Audit when required.
- Ensure employees within the area of responsibility are aware of the consequences of not following Environmental and Health & Safety procedures and policies.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c)).
Quality - Full understanding of Quality policies and requirements and ensuring adherence.
- Conduct fixture checks after adjustments to meet quality objectives; able to sign off on a first off.
- Participate in utilizing problem solving tools (i.e. 1x1 problem solving) to solve daily quality problems.
- Ensure any process changes have approved Deviation Request and is signed off by Department designate and validated by QA before allowing the press to run.
- Ensure that red herrings are functioning optimally and are able to detect potential quality issues.
- Communicate all internal/ external Quality issues at startup meeting. Responsible for associates to understand any quality issues, deviations, and any quality checks.
- Ensures all employees within the area of responsibility are aware of recent customer and internal issues, adhering to applicable quality procedures/work instructions and understands the consequences of not following these procedures/work instructions.
- Follow up on issues affecting quality and customer requirements reported by line associate are responded appropriately and on time and actions taken are effectively implemented.
Operations - Participate in all 1x1 projects in your specific press.
- Manage daily Line sideboard meetings, update Line side boards on Production requirements.
- Responsible for verifying production reports at the end of each shift (scrap, downtime, etc.).
- Meet department targets for development and implementation of continuous improvement ideas/5S projects – overall productivity efficiency, minimize rework/ repair, accurate reporting of scrap and minimize downtime.
- Optimize manpower efficiency, for example timely start of lines, timely return from break and lunch, assessment of operator's performance and adjusting accordingly.
- Participate in utilizing problem solving tools (1x1 problem solving) to solve daily production problems.
- Ensure standard work instructions are being followed and report any changes required to the press tech team lead, Champion of any improvements to work instructions supported by all required departments such as Safety, Quality, Engineering, Tool room and Maintenance
- Ensure OK to Run checklist, component lot traceability, TPM, 5S, red herring log, and quality inspection reports are completed by Operators/ Packers as required.
Technical Aptitude - Assist Tech leads with implementation and preventative maintenance of all electrical production equipment to improve time while ensuring machines produce quality parts (where applicable).
- Assist Tech leads with performing necessary mechanical repairs, modifications and/or adjustments of all production equipment, as required so that quality parts are produced, and production is not interrupted (if applicable).
- Assist Tech leads with updating and maintaining PM checklist based on the history of the equipment and schematic drawings.
- Assist Tech leads with planning layout, install and repair complex wiring circuits, distribution systems to the applicable codes, mechanical equipment, electrical and electronic components of varied equipment.
- Assist tech leads with diagnose and remedy all electrical troubles and repair/replace all electrical apparatus as required.
- Assist Tech leads and support with diagnose complex equipment failures and provide solutions, such as dismantle, repair, and reassemble etc. in a timely manner to ensure minimal interruption to production.
- Occasionally perform work in other trade that you are qualified.
Leadership - Lead shift startup meetings at Line sideboard daily.
- Ensure the Training & Skills on the Line side Training Matrix for assigned Operators are up to date.
- Evaluate Press operators and temporary associates by completing mentor checklist and Competency fo training as needed.
- Continuously communicate with associates about their performance, morale, job satisfaction, health and well-being.
- Ensure the culture of the department is aligned with our vision, mission and 10 principles.
- Abide by all Company polices including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook

- Manpower, resources with support from press tech team lead
- Quantitative Measurable:
- 0 safety infractions, 0% quality issues, required efficiency target of production: participation in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Oversee department of approximately 3-5 associates per area
- Report out weekly on improvements within your presses if applicable
Physical Demands: - Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Must be able to work with push pull forces of 50 lbs or less.
- Must be able to work overtime as need.
- Must be able to operate heavy equipment;Forklift
- Job requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching.
Health and Safety: - Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company and plant rules, policies and procedures
- Must use or wear Personal Protective Equipment and certain clothing as required by the Company
