Toolmaker - Job Description


Required Qualifications:
• Certified Tool and Die Maker with the following experience:
• 10 – 15 years of manufacturing / tooling experience in automotive industry.
• 5 years of manufacturing operations, program management experience in the automotive industry.
• Demonstrated leadership capability with leading organization for leadership and competency.
• Excellent Communication Skills (oral and written).
• Working knowledge of automotive customers.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Travel required.

• Ability to maintain documentation and related records in an organized and precise manner.
• Clear understanding of Quality Systems used in the automotive industry, Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
• Ability to work well under extreme pressure and able to utilize problem solving techniques effectively.
• Respect and understanding of the Customer / Supplier relationship.
• Willing to perform other duties/tasks that are of reasonable request by Management.
• Ensure that all duties and tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and at no time are the employees or the co-
workers placed in an unsafe condition.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for execution of corporate guidelines in all aspects of tooling and manufacturing.
• Train tool makers in corporate protocols ensuring optimal results.
• Direct local management in all aspects of safe launch regarding new programs.
• Alert corporate of potential risk factors associated with all aspects of the tooling operation and provide solutions.
• Ability to work independently and draw from experience in all aspects of manufacturing and program leadership.
• Plan, co-ordinate, lead, and participate with various multi-disciplined teams addressing objectives associated with the
Tooling, manufacturing and assembly process, productivity, volume outputs, quality, safety, and delivery
commitments to optimize a profitable operation.
• Risk management, ensuring risk is minimized and the corporate reputation is protected.
• Initiates DOEs for new tools and follow through with formalized reporting to management.
• Oversee efficient lay-out of the tooling and manufacturing process, work flow in accordance with lean methodology with the objective of eliminating waste.
• Develop and Provide guidance with a detailed request for quotation for suppliers for tooling, integration and products of new or potential programs within corporate guide lines.
• Detailed analysis of quotations providing detailed presentations to corporate executive management recommending potential sources.
• Develop and provide guidance for negotiating competitive sourcing of suppliers for tooling of new programs.
• Develop and provide guidance for a detailed purchase order to suppliers within corporate policy and procedures.
• Develop and provide guidance to the manufacturing facility in selection of a strong team to have the ability to launch flawlessly.
• Coordinate and manage "run-offs" at equipment vendors against "accepted corporate criteria" as outlined in the terms and conditions of the purchase order ensuring full coherence of corporate polices procedures and practices.
• Responsible for the development of in-house equipment, fixtures and tooling.
• Develop and provide guidance to error proof all aspects of the manufacturing and operational process.
• Maintain a current knowledge of the overall aspects of the Manufacturing process, new technology, and processes, attending
training courses, trade shows and industry conferences as required.
• Ensure manufacturing and assembly processes comply with pertinent health, safety and environmental legislation, practices
and procedures.
• Responsible to protect own health and safety by working in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures.
• Supports in the development of Process flow charts, Control Plans, PFMEA, DFMEA and Proto-type builds.
• Support in the development of Preventative Maintenance Program for all manufacturing process equipment.
• Trouble shoot process/equipment related issues and fine tune process to eliminate process-induced defects.
• Review processing methods and provide continuous development of manufacturing techniques that will improve in-house
capabilities.
• Ensure good housekeeping for the department and work area is tidy and organized at all times.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement initiatives on all aspect of the job.
