3rd Shift Materials Supervisor - Job Description


Job Summary: Responsible for supervising master scheduling department, purchasing department, shipping and receiving, and materials handlers throughout the plant

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and minimum of five years of related experience/training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent communication, organization, time management, problem solving, decision making, and teamwork skills
  • Must have a good knowledge of the English language
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and inventory management system (CMS)
  • Must be able to multi-task, analyse data, pay close attention to detail, and be self-motivated
  • Knowledge of customer portals (Ford, Chrysler, GM, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Customer Specific Requirements
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/IATF 16949

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure employees are performing their duties to the standards and guidelines as dictated by plant leadership
  • Reinforce compliance with health and safety regulations, company rules, policies, and procedures
  • Supervise all shipping/receiving areas
  • Supervise master scheduling, making sure MRP system provides regular lead time for plant production schedule
  • Ensure product gets to the customer JIT
  • Ensure non-production and production parts meet Martinrea requirements and provide them on time to production
  • Update shipping performance and expense reports weekly
  • Ensure raw material inventory is identified and assigned by areas
  • Support the Safety Committee at all times, and perform employee safety observations
  • Ensure proper use of equipment, such as forklift trucks
  • Must understand the six elements of the quality system, record retention, document control, non-conforming material, corrective action, preventative action, and internal audits, as well as department procedures
  • Participate in monthly employee meetings and safety talks
  • Conduct incident investigations
  • Conduct employee training
  • Correct substandard acts or conditions
  • Perform employee safety observations
  • Work on negative inventories and do investigations to make corrections
  • Check all steel inventories for negative/positive and make corrections
  • Any other projects and duties assigned by Materials Manager
  • Abide by all Company polices including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journal, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnishes in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment:

  • 90% Office Environment, 10% Plant Floor (PPE Required)
